Sal’s Recipe for Success
Before you complete your pre-employment application, we want you to know more about our values and our expectations of employees. Sal’s Mexican Restaurant is not just another foodservice company. And we are not looking for just another employee.
Sal’s is a Valley Tradition, known as a comfortable, friendly place to enjoy great tasting home-style Mexican food. Many of our guests are longtime family friends, or their children and grandchildren. Our employees are like family to us as well. Sal’s is a great place to work for those who share our values and approach to hospitality.
Please read the following carefully. Think about whether and how you will fit in with our business environment and approach to guest satisfaction.
Sal’s Mexican Restaurant has several significant goals:
TO TREAT OUR GUESTS LIKE HONORED VISITORS AND FAMILY
Our guests expect to be treated like they are Sal’s longtime family friends. Sal’s success comes from delighting them and earning their regular business. Everything in our company is focused on achieving this goal. Success is measured by your results rather than by your activities.
Our employees are expected to work as a team to consistently—every day, every time, every guest—care for Sal’s guests in a friendly but professional manner. Employees’ personal appearance and clothing must always be appropriate, neat and clean. We expect every employee to adhere to rigid sanitation standards, and to help maintain the restaurants to that high standard.
TO HELP EMPLOYEES DEVELOP PROFESSIONALLY AND PERSONALLY
We will hire the most qualified people we can find. We will support their development both within and outside the organization. We will listen to them, learn from them, train them thoroughly and demand a lot from each of them.
Sal’s will provide the opportunities and tools that can help employees grow and achieve.
But we expect employees to take an active role in their own success and the success of their co-workers. Job responsibilities include helping to train co-workers for positions of higher skill and responsibility. We evaluate performance based not only on your own professional development, but by the advancement of your co-workers as well.
TO BE A GOOD CITIZEN OF THE COMMUNITY
Sal’s supports many worthy local charities with money, resources and volunteers. We expect our employees to identify and personally participate in helping worthwhile school or community activities.
TO MAINTAIN A PERSONAL WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR STAFF
Sal’s owners believe in getting to know and working closely with employees. We want to be known for more than just a hello and a paycheck. It’s important to us to create and maintain a trusting relationship with our staff.
Thank you for your interest and your time. We wish you all the best luck in the future, whatever direction your career may take you.
With best regards,
Karl and Lorraine Salazar
A few more things we believe are important for you to know about us.
- All our operations are completely non-smoking establishments. There are no cigarette breaks and we do not permit staff to smoke while on duty or while on or near the premises or in uniform.
- We take staff selection very seriously. If you are a final candidate, you can expect up to three interviews and perhaps several written tests. We may ask you to demonstrate your skills and tell us how you would handle some sticky situations. We go to this trouble because our goals and standards are very high. If you are good enough to become part of our staff, you are truly an outstanding individual.
- We are an equal opportunity employer and we will select only qualified applicants for every position. We are looking for people committed to professional excellence and legendary guest service who will make a positive contribution to our company for as long as we choose to work together.
